Located in the heart of inner-city Sydney, the Redfern Residence is a considered renovation and extension of a classic terrace, reworked to support contemporary living without losing its inherent character. Rather than overhauling the home, the project focused on improving spatial clarity, circulation and light. The front of the house was reconfigured to create a generous main suite, combining bedroom, bathroom and walk-in robe into a calm, private retreat. Along the hallway, full-height timber panelling conceals doors, stairs and storage, transforming circulation space into a seamless, gallery-like experience. Above, the roof space was carefully utilised to form a secluded guest bedroom with its own ensuite, taking advantage of the home’s vertical volume while maintaining intimacy through a restrained palette and layered textures. To the rear, kitchen and dining spaces open up to the garden, introducing natural light and a sense of openness often absent in linear terrace homes.
