An adventurous update to a classic P&O Style family home resulting in an award-winning build and a suburb stand out.

Working with Matt Woods, South West House was a design and construct renovation and addition of an existing single level, 4 Bedroom 2 Bathroom free-standing house.

The original design included new columns and footings within the existing masonry walls. Following demolition, we identified substantial sandstone footings and, in consultation with the structural and geotechnical engineers, repurposed them to support first-floor loads. This allowed column removal, increased floor area, and preserved heritage ceilings and cornices. During extensive roof removal, a dual-tarp system protected the building, though extreme weather caused temporary damage, later fully restored. Replicating off-form concrete details in lightweight materials required intensive planning, coordination, and robust waterproofing execution.

It’s hard to know where to start when summing up our experience of building our dream home with Green Anvil. Expectations from start to finish were beyond what we ever thought possible from a builder. Sam O’Flaherty and his team gave the entire process, from planning to implementation, the highest level of consideration and thought, as well as high regard and care for the existing house.

It was a pleasure to see such a strong team build this house, and you only need to stand out on the street for 5 minutes to constantly be stopped by passers-by telling you how the seeing the new house brightens their walk to the train station, or how such a creative build has inspired their own, as well as how pleasant and non disruptive the builders were to have on the street during the construction.

Without a doubt we would recommend Sam and his team for any future endeavours, and we are proud to live in such a stunning house built by the best!
